2007 - 45th Reunion:
FAMILY INFORMATION:
Still squabbling with Dick after 39years.
Our daughter Chelle and her daughter, Genevieve (13), live in Santa Cruz CA.
Our son Rich and his wife Michelle live in Durham NC. He stepped into a ready made family of Alexis (14) and Luke (12). Neat kids and always ready to welcome new grandchildren. Sure wish they were closer!
WHATEVER YOU WANT TO SHARE ABOUT WHAT’S HAPPENING IN YOUR LIFE:
CIGNA closed its Des Moines office so I stayed home while my severance package played out. Then discovered I should have been looking for a job a lot sooner as people our age are not readily hired. I am now employed with IFMC and working a contract with the welfare system. Very interesting but at the moment I am working a lot of overtime. One thing that makes the "old lady" gleeful is this winter there were a lot of illnesses in our unit, but I did not catch it. Of course being back up for the sickies is what put me into the overtime situation. Hopefully with spring here, the germs will be blown out and full staff will finally be back.
Dick and I are collectors—my collections are beautiful frogs and strawberries and his is "junk" and clutter—of course. Our house is full and I keep saying we have to quit, but so far still re-arranging. I am a little better - BUTTTTTT. I can't seem to get rid of the "memory stuff" I did clean out a lot when home on severance but not nearly enough. Maybe when I retire - - HA, HA.
WAS THERE SOMETHING AT JOHNSTON THAT INSPIRED YOU OR CHANGED YOU AND THUS BECAME PART OF YOUR DAILY LIFE?
I will always be grateful for Mrs. Cassiday and all the other task masters at JHS. Even without a college education, I can still write with the best of them. Sorry, Mr. Lancaster - still don't retain the number stuff beyond addition, subtraction, multiply and divide. Excel spreadsheets with formulas were developed just for me!
I will not be at the 45th reunion—1 will be in Quebec for a family reunion of the 6 Pontious kids and spouses. Our mother died of Alzheimers and we decided in order to keep in touch we should have a reunion every 2 years. Brother Harry planned this one and it hit the same time as the class reunion. We will be spending 7 days in a 10 bedroom house in downtown Quebec city. Hopefully we can make it 7 days without a major fight. Also will be strange as we were all raised in a two bedroom house in Dogpatch. Mom and Dad slept on a hide-a-bed and the girls in one bedroom and the boys in the other. By the time the last two were older, dad had enlarged the house to a three bedroom and they each had their own room. Couldn't have been the same as when we were all young, though.
2002 - 40th Reunion:
Family Information
My husband retired and I continued working so I could retain what little sanity I have left.
Our son got married last June to a lovely young lady so we now have 2 more grandchildren: Alexis, 9 and Luke, 7. Wonderful children, only drawback is they live in Durham, NC.
Our daughter, Chelle and Granddaughter Genevieve moved to Santa Cruz, CA in July 2001. We went out at her spring break and took her to Disneyland. Chelle works for the University of CA at Santa Cruz and some day might use her degree in her employment.
Work/Retirement History
I am still employed at CIGNA Healthcare and now work in the appeals department as clerical support.
Life’s Highlights
In October 2001 my brother Harry and his wife treated me to a trip to France and Italy. It was a pilgrimage with their church in Orange, VA and it was FABULOUS!!!!! Dick went along, but had to pay his own way. I never dreamed I would ever throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain or see the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel or stand at the top of the Spanish steppes and look out over Rome. The area in France we were in was Alsace-Lorraine where the Pontious family came from. UNBELIEVABLE TRIP!!!!!!!!!!
